  CBN releases $265m to airlines over repatriation challenges The  Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday, released $265m to airlines operating in the country, to settle outstanding ticket sales to check a brewing crisis in the country’s aviation sector. A breakdown of the figure indicated that  $230m was released as special foreign exchange intervention while another $35m was released through Retail SMIS auction. Disclosing this in a statement, the Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr  Osita Nwanisobi , said the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and his team were concerned about the development and what it portends for the sector and travellers as well as the country in the comity of nations.   A social media influencer, Deji Adeyanju, has lambasted followers of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, saying they are acting mad. Adeyanju said in a post on his verified Facebook page that Obi supporters have suddenly lost their minds. According to him, Obi supporters, popularly known as the Obidients, are trying to bring religion into their political equation, calling them amazing folks. His words: “ Almost everyone supporting Obi is acting mad. They suddenly lose their mind and are even trying to bring religion into the equation. Amazing folks!” Deji Adeyanju is known for attacking followers of the former Anambra State Governor.   Hushpuppi to be sentenced on September 21 – U.S Attorney’s office Embattled internet fr@udster, Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi, 39, will be sentenced on Wednesday, September 21, the United States Attorney's office for Central District of California, Los Angeles has said. The court’s Director of Media Relations, Thom Mrozek, disclosed this known on Friday, August 26, in response to an email inquiry by Channels Television. Hushpuppi’s sentence date had been moved three times since his conviction in 2021. Valentine’s February 14 date was first chosen for his sentencing before it was postponed to July 11, and now September 21. Mrozek disclosed that the suspect had long pleaded guilty to the alleged $1.1m fr@ud last year and would be sentenced later this year. “Mr. Abbas is currently scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles on September 21,” he said.
